De acordo com dados divulgados na última quinta-feira (21), pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística(IBGE), o Brasil ainda tem 12 milhões de analfabetos. O levantamento aponta, ainda, que mais da metade dos brasileiros não tem ensino médio completo e quase 70% dos jovens com mais de 18 anos não estudam. A pesquisa mostra também que mais da metade da população não tem nem o ensino médio completo. Os dados se referem ao ano de 2016.
Apesar de o Plano Nacional de Educação, o PNE, estabelecer como meta a erradicação do analfabetismo no Brasil até 2025, os dados apresentados nesta quinta-feira revelam que ainda há um longo caminho a percorrer. O Brasil ainda tem 12 milhões de analfabetos acima de 15 anos, o que corresponde a uma taxa de analfabetismo de 7,2%. O mesmo PNE estabelecia que esta taxa deveria ser 6,5 % em 2015.
O índice de analfabetismo é maior entre as pessoas mais velhas. A taxa atinge 20% entre as pessoas com 60 anos ou mais de idade. A taxa de analfabetismo da região Nordeste é cerca de quatro vezes maior do que a taxa apresentada nas regiões sudeste e sul. Para as pessoas pretas ou pardas a taxa foi mais do que o dobro da observada entre as pessoas brancas.
Apenas 30% das crianças até 3 anos estão na creche. A partir da idade obrigatória para a matrícula, que é 4 anos, a taxa de escolarização chega a 90%, nas idades de 4 e 5 anos. No ensino fundamental, que abrange a faixa etária de 6 a 14 anos, o país praticamente já alcançou a universalização, com uma taxa de 99%. O índice cai novamente na faixa etária de 15 a 17 anos, cuja taxa de escolarização é de 87,2%
