Paraguaios se classificam após empate entre Japão e Equador e, como em 2011 e 2015, voltam a enfrentar a Seleção no mata-mata do torneio. Uruguai encara o Peru, e Chile pega Colômbia
As quartas de final da Copa América estão definidas. Na próxima quinta-feira, às 21h30, na Arena do Grêmio, em Porto Alegre, o Brasil enfrentará o Paraguai. O rival brasileiro foi conhecido após o empate por 1 a 1 entre Japão e Equador nesta segunda. Os japoneses terminaram a primeira fase com dois pontos no Grupo C, mas saldo de gols menor que os paraguaios que, mesmo com dois pontos, avançaram como um dos dois melhores terceiros.
Na sexta-feira, às 16h, os segundos colocados dos Grupos A e B se enfrentam no Maracanã: Argentina e Venezuela. Ainda na sexta, a Colômbia pega o Chile na Arena Corinthians, em São Paulo, às 20h. A próxima fase será encerrada no sábado, na Fonte Nova, em Salvador, com o jogo entre Uruguai e Peru, às 16h.
O Paraguai foi o rival brasileiro nas duas últimas vezes que a Seleção esteve no mata-mata da Copa América, ambas nas quartas de final: em 2011, na Argentina, e em 2015, no Chile. Nas duas vezes, os paraguaios eliminaram o Brasil nos pênaltis. Há oito anos, as duas seleções empataram por 0 a 0 no tempo normal, e em 2015, empataram por 1 a 1.
O último confronto entre Brasil e Paraguai foi em março de 2017, pela 14ª rodada das eliminatórias para a Copa do Mundo de 2018. A Seleção venceu por 3 a 0 a partida, disputada na Arena Corinthians.
