Estudo mostra que tomar aspirina todo dia oferece risco para pessoas idosas

Pesquisa feita com mais de 19 mil pessoas acima de 70 anos nos EUA e na Austrália revelou que houve aumento no número de hemorragias estomacais em quem usa a droga diariamente; droga traz benefícios para quem sofreu derrame ou ataque cardíaco.

 

Uma nova e importante pesquisa feita nos Estados Unidos e na Austrália sugere que idosos em boas condições de saúde não devem tomar uma aspirina por dia, como já indicaram outros estudos.

Há benefícios comprovados do uso diário da aspirina para as pessoas que sofreram um ataque cardíaco ou derrame, porque a droga ajuda a diluir o sangue, evitando assim um novo ataque.

Algumas pessoas completamente saudáveis optam por tomar aspirina para diminuir as chances de ataque cardíaco ou derrame e há pesquisas contínuas sobre o uso desse medicmamento para reduzir o risco de câncer.

Mas o novo estudo não encontrou benefícios para pessoas saudáveis ​​com mais de 70 anos tomarem diariamente aspirina – pelo contrário, o medicamento aumentou o risco de hemorragias, os sangramentos internos que podem levar à morte.

Especialistas descreveram os resultados como muito importantes e alertaram contra a automedicação com aspirina.

A maioria das pesquisas sobre os benefícios da aspirina é realizada em pessoas na meia-idade e há evidências crescentes de que os perigos aumentam à medida que envelhecemos.

Sem efeito para saudáveis

O estudo foi feito com 19.114 pessoas nos EUA e na Austrália. Os entrevistados têm mais de 70 anos, boas condições de saúde e não possuem histórico de problemas cardíacos.

Metade delas recebeu uma dose diária de aspirina em baixa dose por cinco anos.

Três relatórios publicados na revista científica New England Journal of Medicine mostraram que as pílulas não reduziram o risco de problemas cardíacos ou proporcionaram algum outro benefício para quem as tomou.

A pesquisa diz que nessas pessoas o uso da aspirina aumentou o número de grandes hemorragias estomacais.

“Isso significa que milhões de idosos saudáveis ​​em todo o mundo que estão tomando aspirina em doses baixas sem uma razão médica podem estar fazendo isso desnecessariamente, porque o estudo não mostrou nenhum benefício geral para compensar o risco de sangramento”, diz o pesquisador John McNeil, da Universidade Monash.

O estudo também descobriu um aumento nas mortes por câncer, embora os pesquisadores achem que isso precise de uma investigação mais aprofundada, já que vai contra as descobertas atuais nessa área.

O professor Peter Rothwell, da Universidade de Oxford, que estuda essa medicação há muito tempo, disse que as descobertas são definitivas.

“Tome aspirina se você não estiver saudável e com mais de 70 anos e se não teve um ataque cardíaco prévio ou acidente vascular cerebral é algo realmente muito pouco benéfico. Portanto, a automedicação com aspirina, na ausência de uma indicação médica definitiva, não é aconselhável”, diz.

As descobertas não se aplicam a pessoas que tomam aspirina devido a um ataque cardíaco ou acidente vascular cerebral – estas devem continuar a seguir os conselhos de seus médicos.
