Dá para usar menos veneno com manejo integrado de pragas e doenças. Equipamentos de proteção individual são indispensáveis para aplicar o produto.
Informação e vigilância constante são as principais armas para usar agrotóxicos de forma mais racional e sustentável. Conhecer bem o lugar onde se produz, ficar atento ao que acontece no clima da região e, especialmente, monitorar as lavouras são ações fundamentais para se reduzir o uso de veneno.
A própria indústria do agrotóxico reconhece que é possível usar os produtos de forma mais racional. “Se a gente considerar a realidade de hoje, em que a gente está enfrentando problemas de resistência de pragas, é essencial que se tenha o máximo de ferramentas disponíveis”, diz Mário Von Zuben, diretor executivo da Andef, entidade formada pelas fabricantes.
“A convergência de tecnologias hoje já permite que haja um maior equilíbrio entre a utilização de defensivos químicos, dos eventos de biotecnologia, que nos últimos 10 a 15 anos já são uma realidade no país, e também dos produtos biológicos que vêm crescendo bastante”, emenda.
Ferramentas para ajudar no controle não faltam. O manejo integrado de doenças (MID) e o manejo integrado de pragas (MIP) são tecnologias consagradas que auxiliam o produtor a escolher o melhor momento para controlar o que acontece na lavoura.
Menos veneno, mais economia
Há cerca de 6 anos, em parceria com a Emater do Paraná, a Embrapa Soja criou um grupo de propriedades que rigorosamente faz plantio direto, MIP e MID.
Paulo Mirtv, chefe do escritório da Emater, coordena a parte de campo do programa, em Londrina. Ele conta que há dois coletores instalados em fazendas em pontos bem diferentes do município, e que eles servem de referência para todos os agricultores da região.
A unidade de referência tem 26 hectares, mas, no entorno, mais de 1,6 mil hectares plantados dependem das informações que saem de lá para decidir se fazem ou não o controle.
“Os vizinhos faziam 4, 5 aplicações de fungicida. E, hoje, nós estamos aí com soja plantada em 20 de outubro não foi feita nenhuma aplicação”, conta Paulo.
O resultado foi tão bom que o grupo, que começou com 50 propriedades, hoje já tem 196.
O sítio Ventania, uma das unidades de referência do programa, já faz monitoramento de pragas e de doenças há quase 6 anos, com redução no uso de agrotóxicos muito significativa.
A propriedade tem 60 hectares e fica no município de Londrina. Ela pertence a Cláudio Alves, que toca o trabalho com a ajuda do filho Vinícius, estudante de agronomia.
Vinícius conta que o número de aplicações de herbicidas, fungicidas e herbicidas caiu de 6 a 7 vezes depois do programa. Com esse manejo, economizou na safra de soja passada cerca de R$ 60 mil.
