Uma pílula contraceptiva masculina está em fase de testes. O medicamento é composto por testosterona modificada que combina um hormônio masculino, o androgênio, e a progesterona. O comprimido promete reduzir a produção de espermatozoides sem prejudicar substancialmente a libido. Mas, até que seja comercializado, será preciso esperar pelo menos uns 10 anos.
Os resultados da primeira fase de estudos foram apresentados nesta terça-feira (26/3), no encontro anual da Sociedade de Endocrinologia, em Nova Orleans, nos Estados Unidos, de acordo com informações divulgadas pela agência pública de notícias alemã Deutsche Welle. O contraceptivo oral masculino chama-se 11-beta-MNTDC e foi testado em 40 homens.
Do total de participantes da pesquisa, 14 receberam doses de 200 miligramas, e 16 receberam doses de 400 miligramas. Outros 10 receberam uma cápsula placebo. Todos os participantes ingeriram as cápsulas uma vez por dia, ao longo de 28 dias. Após esse período, os homens que tomaram o contraceptivo mostraram queda no nível de testosterona – hormônio ligado à fertilidade, à formação de músculos e ao desejo sexual. Alguns participantes relataram casos de fadiga, acne e dores de cabeça, mas não foram reportados efeitos colaterais mais sérios.
A partir desses resultados iniciais do 11-beta-MNTDC, os pesquisadores agora irão realizar testes por períodos mais longos, de 60 e 90 dias. A ideia é verificar como isso afetará a produção de esperma. Se o medicamento repetir os bons resultados desta primeira fase, ele será testado em grupos maiores e, posteriormente, em casais sexualmente ativos.
A pesquisadora Stephanie Page, da Escola de Medicina da Universidade de Washington, afirmou que, de acordo pesquisas já realizadas, cerca de 55% dos homens em relacionamentos estáveis estão abertos a tentar métodos contraceptivos hormonais caso seus efeitos sejam reversíveis.
